#FanContentFriday – shooky_dough’s Traditional BTS Art!

Aside from content that BTS provides to their dear ARMYs, the fandom feeds on ones made by fans. Be it memes, fanarts, song and dance covers, or fanfics, ARMYs love getting a dose of fan content – to the extent that there are notable ones that trended in Twitter worldwide. It is also a way for the creators to show and develop their creativity.

For this first #FanContentFriday we are going to feature BTS fanarts posted on the internet. Specifically, BTS fanarts made by artists on Instagram. One of them is Nikki, who is also known as shooky_dough on Instagram. She has over 24.3K followers on the mobile app. She posts her BTS fanarts on Instagram which showcases her talent in traditional art through drawing the members using pen and paper.

Through an online interview with Nikki, we were able to get to know more about her and how the drawing process usually goes through.

How did you get into creating fanarts and specifically BTS fanart?

I have always been into drawing fanart. Before I discovered BTS I would casually draw video game fanart every now and then, so when I discovered BTS it was only natural. I also really enjoy translating characters into my own style and getting creative with ideas.

When did you start creating fanarts?

My first BTS fanart was created in May this year.

Tell us more about the drawing process.

The time it takes to draw is different each time. Sometimes it can take one hour or sometimes it can take many. Some drawings just flow nicer and I get them right the first time or sometimes I have to work on them really hard to achieve an end result that I am happy with. But in the end I think that helps me learn and makes me a better artist.

When did you become an ARMY?

Also this year in Feb. I was definitely late to the party but I believe I found them at the right moment. Dope was my kryptonite!

Who is the member that you love drawing?

Gotta be Yoongi. Not only because he is my bias but because I find his features very fun to draw. Also you can add cat ears to create lil meow meow and that makes me very happy.

Who is the member you find most difficult to draw?

Definitely Tae. I just find his features to be too perfect to the point that it’s hard to pick any that stand out. He is just too beautiful.

What inspires you to create these fanarts?

Of course BTS. Also fellow artists on instagram. When I see their amazing artworks it inspires me to be as good as them and to work hard.

Do you have an artist that you look up to?

@Supremecatlord. I don’t really have words to explain how happy their art makes me feel. I just really love the way they translate each member’s characteristics into their own style. It’s really amazing everyone should go and check them out.

What is your preferred style of creating fanarts?

Definitely traditional art. There is something beautiful about pencil and paper. I also lean towards a cute style, although I really do enjoy dark themes also.

What’s next on your list? Like what next fanart of yours should we look out for?

Look out for some ships. *SOPE I AM LOOKING AT YOU*. Also *COUGH* Taekook

What are the usual feedback you receive?

Very positive. It makes my heart swell with happiness, I can hardly explain it. I am so grateful that people enjoy my art and take the time out of their days to write to me.

What are your goals, be it in creating fanarts or your personal ones?

Fanart wise my 2 main goals are to start drawing commissions and to have a table at a local convention for my art. Personal goals I just want to be happy and successful at what I do. I also want to inspire others; it makes me extremely happy whenever somebody tells me I have inspired them in some way! I think to impact somebody else’s life in a positive way is such an amazing thing.

What do you want to tell ARMYs?

Love yourself. Speak yourself. Don’t let anybody tell you who you are or who you aren’t.

Interviewed by: Euni

Hello! I'm Euni. I'm 21 years of age from the Philippines. I became an ARMY during the HYYH era. My bias is Min Yoongi, while my bias wrecker is Kim Namjoon; but I love them all. I love listening to music, particularly BTS. I also play the violin, dance, read and write stories, as well as watch anime and TV series.
